About the Author
I was sentenced to twelve years federal prison on January 2002. These poems were written while doing those years behind bars. Prison changes a man—your heart hardens, your spirit crushed. I hope you can understand the devastation prison inflicts upon a person and the seriousness of the consequences for our actions. I learned the hard way that we often fail to appreciate what we have in life until it’s taken from us. Prison takes you away from those you love, you lose your independence and freedom of choice. But knowing you hurt your loved ones and knowing there’s only yourself to blame rips at your heart and soul. So I dug deep, found the inspiration I needed, and wrote these poems from the heart of the prisoner. Never lose sight of your loved ones. Never lose sight of yourself. I hope you find some inspiration and joy out of reading these poems.
